Maritime Sussex: Harbours, Trade and Shipping is John Farrant’s new book, due for publication in 2009. Covering the Sussex Cinque ports, aspects of Brighton’s fisheries, the coastal trade and river navigation, it will be a major survey of these key themes in Sussex history.

In the work, John Farrant also looks at cross-Channel passenger traffic in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, as well as the impact of the railways on Sussex shipping.

Including numerous pictures and maps, Maritime Sussex will be of interest to anyone interested in the history of Sussex and of the south east, as well as those researching maritime history.
